Just finished reading Lisey's Story by Stephen King. Imagine reading "Insomnia" or "IT" or "The Stand" while simultaneously walking over Stephen's own flower laden grave. Yeah, it's kinda like that - in feeling, but OH SO GOOD! Yesterday I happened to see his name on the cover of Esquire Magazine (and, I might add, before I even noticed Angelina Jolie on the cover) and flipped through it to find a full length novella that I would have bought BUT... the entire mood was ruined by the accompanying artwork, which was shot to hell on the final page. The artist decided to start with a little blood on the pages and every time a page was turned the pool of blood got bigger and bigger on the page until the very last page... A FUCKING CAR AD!!! Surely a graphic artist who will no doubt rot in hell for abusing their creative powers. That is, if it was the artist. I'm hoping it wasn't Steve taking a corporate dive for a buck. Maybe it was the ad director. Whoever it was, I didn't buy the magazine because of the blatant tie-in. I think now I'll just read the magazine in the store then put it back on the shelf. That's a few dollars you idiots will have lost by being greedy with a "bait and switch."
In my previous blog I commented on Stephen's new movie (check out the trailer below). This past month I also got my DVD of his Nightmares and Dreamscapes and I have only watched two of the eight movies on it along with some background bonus material. What I've seen so far is amazing. I'm hoping that this is not the last dance of Stephen King and that Lisey's Story does not herald the future or plot its ways. I'm seeing the "return of the KING" baby and I like it. And of course, Blaze is out too. SOWISA!!! Comments appreciated and anything on King is treasured gold.
